The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple is pleased to announce that on December 6, it will host a concert featuring the music of Newpoli, an Italian folk group. The show, entitled “Musica di Natale: Songs from the South of Italy,” presents the Christmas Story, from shepherd songs of the Appennini Mountatins to music from the courts and piazzas of Naples. The show will begin at 8:00 p.m. with a pre-show Italian Feast prepared by Constantino’s Catering at 6:00 p.m.
Two singers and six instrumentalists bring an Italian Christmas celebration to life in dramatic fashion using original dialects and traditional instruments. The repertoire will include traditional folk prayers, artful polyphonic songs dating back to the Renaissance, and captivating tarantellas that will make you want to dance. Joining the group on stage will be renowned multi-instrumentalist John La Barbera, performing on historical instruments and bringing the audience back to a Naples of centuries ago.
The event begins at 8:00 p.m. with a pre-show Italian feast prepared by Constantino’s Catering at 6:00 p.m. Show tickets are $25 and dinner tickets are $30. They can be purchased at the SCC Box Office, by calling(570) 344-1111, at http://www.ticketmaster.com/Newpoli-tickets/artist/1918378, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at Boscov’s, Gallery of Sound or select Walmart locations.
